Martin Lings or Abu Bakr Siraj ad-Din (1909-2005) was the Keeper of Oriental Manuscripts in the British Museum and the British Library. A close friend of René Guénon and Frithjof Schuon he came to live much of his life in Egypt and Britain. The author of a highly acclaimed Biography of the Prophet Muhammed he also came to write many books on Islamic art, Shakespeare and Sufism.
